A Cozy Embroidery Themed Christmas

Hello Fellow Cardmakers! It’s been an age! My apologies for this very long overdue post. Since my first upload, life has taken me in many directions, including the return to museum work, teaching card classes, decluttering the basement, and a family trip to Tokyo, Japan. Of course I have not stopped making cards during all this time, as my creativity continues to flow — thanks to my core group of wondeful scrappy ladies that I have had the priviledge to befriend and craft with over the years. Regular crafty gatherings (whether in person or virtual) and active chat groups have helped to keep my inspiration ever present, and I have no shortage of ideas just waiting for me explore and turn into real projects. And, it was at one of these such gattherings that these embroidery themed Christmas cards were started! At a Scrapaganza event that was held in my hometown just this past September. As a cross-stitcher myself, I knew I had to create something with these beautiful vintage designs from Nichol Spohr’s Needlework Collection line at Spellbinders!

Incorporating die cuts from three different die sets, I pulled together these lovely cards in three different colour palettes of cream, burgandy and dark green. The scene that I envisioned in my mind’s eye that inspired this design was that of an experienced stitcher, on a snowy winter’s night, reclined and cozied up on the sofa beside a lit fireplace with her favourite plaid blanket on her lap, and her vintage hoop, scissors, needle and bobbins of thread (all of which hold sentimental value, as they were passed on to her by family members from previous generations), and she happily stitches the night away while the Christmas tree twinkles behind in the background.

Hopefully, my designs managed to convey and reflect my vision. I personally think they turned out quite well, and am especially pleased with the faux stitched image of the christmas tree, and the gold vintage heron scissors. Here’s a look at each of the cards individually.

Upsie Daisies…

Hello Everyone! Finally, my very first post. Thanks for being here, and I hope that you will check back every once in a while, as I navigate this new world of photography, blogging, and posting my designs. I certainly have a lot to learn, so please bear with me as I continue to figure things out, and improve.

Now on with the fun bits…

Crafty playtime yielded some fabulous results, and I am so pleased with how these cards turned out! I really like Gerber daisies in general, and this peach and lilac colour combination is especially sentimental for me, as they were our wedding colours, when my husband and I married 23 years ago. Still love them, and they still work so well together! The Tufted pattern and texture just adds that extra bit of elegance. Little bits of matching bling, vellum, and gold help to bring together and complete the look I was aiming for beautifully.

Products: Gerber Daisy and Ladybugs cutting dies, Tufted 3D embossing folder (Spellbinders), Pale Papaya and Fresh Freesia cardstock (Stampin’ Up), Hello layered metal die (Paper Rose Studio), Harvest Gold mirror card (Tonic Studios)
